New version of My ResNet available!

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve upgraded My ResNet to a newer, faster, prettier version!

The main improvements that you’ll notice are:

  • A new look and feel
  • The main page loads much faster than it did previously
  • “Check my network usage” is now much easier to understand than it was previously, and has interactive graphs!

If you notice anything that’s not working quite how you would expect it to, or have any comments about the new version (good or bad!) please get in touch. If it’s broken we want to fix it!

We have more improvements planned for My ResNet, but what we’d really like is some ideas from you, so if you’ve got any ideas let us know! some things you might want to think about include:

  • What information would you like which is currently missing?
  • What do you currently have to phone the helpdesk about, which we could make easier for you by giving you tools to do it for yourself?

Update: To save you the trouble of having to email us your feedback, we’re opening up the comments on this one! Let us know what you think of the new My ResNet using the form below…

o Having an SSO Logout link would be nice 🙂
o Is describing a Terrabyte really necessary?
o “Switch on IPTV for your ResNet conenction” and “Switch off IPTV for your ResNet conenction” both have spelling mistakes and it would be nice to only have the relevant one showing

Aside from that it’s nice and functional 🙂 looks nicer than it did

    Hi Richard,

Unfortunately because of the way that SSO works, a logout link is problematic. The only sure way to log out of an SSO session is to close all your browser windows. This isn’t unique to My ResNet – which is worth remembering next time you use the portal!

Good point about the Terrabyte, I put that in because it’s a unit which could get mentioned on the page in theory – although anyone doing that much traffic would get pulled up long before they hit a Terrabyte! 🙂

I’ll add your IPTV comments to the list of things to fix. The spelling errors I can certainly fix tomorrow morning, and “doing something more sensible” regarding opting in/out is already on my todo list for the next revision.

Thanks for your comments though, they’re all really useful!

    1) Any chance of that spelling correction?
    2) Whilst I understand that the browser windows should be closed to fully logout of your SSO session does this not make: redundant?

    Hi Richard,

I’ve been away for the last few days, partly attending a conference and partly due to a rather nasty bout of flu. I seem to be over the worst of it and have now pushed out that spelling correction to the production server.

The SSO issue is complex, as it depends on how the application itself does SSO under the hood. It’s related to the SSO architecture itself, and that’s not something I can control!

That logout link will work for some applications, but not all. Unfortunately it can’t easily be made to work with My ResNet.

As such, I’d rather not link to it as it gives users a false sense of security. 🙁

I will however look into putting a link on My ResNet with some advice about how to log out of the SSO session by closing all browser windows.
